Checking out life with Kim

Pretty great school!

My daughter has been going to her school for six years now and my son has been enrolled for four. And I have to say that this school never ceases to amaze me. Every time I think about how great they are, they go and do something else that just reinforces my thoughts. Like something they did yesterday.

As you all know, my daughter recently got her hair cut. Well yesterday was her first day back to school since she got it cut and she was quite anxious to see what everyone thought of her new look. Well by all the comments and compliments she got, she was definitely noticed. So much in fact that the vice-principal called her down to the office. He wanted to take her picture and put it on the “Me” wall. This wall displays the photos of all the children who have done caring and compassionate acts for their community.

Well because my daughter donated her hair for cancer they considered this a very giving act of kindness. So they took her picture and made her feel special because of what she did. This pleased her a great deal and all she could talk about last night was how happy she was that the teachers and the staff were so proud of her for her gift to the community.

It’s little acts like this that make this school the best school in this district. The only thing I’m sad about is that this is her last year of elementary school so she won’t be attending this school after this year. But on a brighter note, my son will still be going for another two years! Schools don’t have to do these little acts of kindness for the children that are enrolled there, but this school certainly goes above and beyond. And for this, I am extremely happy!

I would like to take this time to tell you all about my special little girl who has a big heart. My daughter is only ten, but she has got to be the sweetest and kindest little girl I know. And..now I’m going to tell you all why.

In her ten little years of life, she has only had one hair cut. Up until this weekend, this kid’s hair was down past her backside. Yes, she has had her bangs cut and the back of her hair trimmed, but no real haircut to speak of. Well last summer she wanted to get her hair cut but would only do it if she could donate her hair to kids who have cancer. Well I couldn’t find a hair dresser who participated in this type of program. So we got four inches cut off her hair and went on our way.

Well this past weekend we decided that she needed her bangs cut once again. So on Saturday my husband took her to the beauty saloon (I had to work). When they arrived and the hairstylist asked him how much to cut off my daughter piped up that she wanted it cut short. Then she asked if she could donate her hair for kid’s that have cancer and need a wig and they said yes they do participate in this program. She was extremely pleased by this news and proceeded to get twelve inches cut off her hair. She had enough hair for TWO wigs!

I must say that I was in complete shock when I got home from work. But it’s something she has wanted to do for about three years now and she was extremely proud of herself. And you know what?? Her haircut looks really good and she is happy with what she did. So…this is why I have got the best little girl on this planet!

I have to say that finding my husband almost 15 years ago was probably one of the smartest things that I ever did. Yes, we have had a ups and downs, but thinking back on the last 15 years I have to say that there has been more ups than downs and I wouldn’t trade one second of it all.

Well this past Christmas he did something extremely special for me. He bought me a new diamond engagement ring. He picked it out all by himself and kept this secret from me for over a month. So because he was so nice to me, I have decided to return the favor. His birthday just happens to be on February 14 so I thought I would do something special for him. I have decided to check out the prices on Swatch watches and possibly purchase him one. Currently he does not own a watch so I think this would be a pretty impressive present for him to receive. For everything that he has done for me over the years, this is just my little way of saying thank you.

Well with January finally here I know a lot of people who make new year’s resolutions. Well I don’t. The reason why I don’t is because in the past when I have made them I’ve never followed through so I don’t bother making them any more. Well having said this, I have decided to make a list. Not a new year’s resolution, just a list of things I would like to accomplish over the next year. Then when 2010 rolls around I will come back to this list and see what I actually did accomplish and what I didn’t. My list isn’t very big, but it is important to me.

1. Discover more income opportunities for working from home. (know of any??)
2. Eat healthier and eat more (to gain weight).
3. Possibly leave me job in June (see point #1).
4. Finally get my home office the way I like it and get my laptop off the kitchen table.
5. Purchase a new vehicle.
6. Stay in better contact with my family
7. Try to develop better patience for the kids and their fighting.
8. Become a better blogger.
9. Find more time to work on my home crafting business.
10. Sell more crafts (see point #9).

There, that’s my list. I will try my hardest to work my way down the list. And when January rolls around again, hopefully I will have most of this list accomplished.

Well I’m sure you have all heard about the soft drink Coke Zero by now haven’t you? And if your anything like I am, as soon as it came out on the market, you tried it didn’t you? Well I would like to now tell you all about a fun little dancing game called Dance Hero that iCoke.ca and Coke Zero have come up with.

This game is really a promotional game for Canadians, but is open to all. You can challenge all your friends to this dancing game. The official launch date was December 15, 2008 and has already proven to take the Internet by storm. You really can “waste” a lot of time playing this game as it is highly addictive. The nut and bolts of the game is to click on all the circles in numerical order and when you see a curved line just follow it along with your cursor. The more you play the game, the better chance you have a beating your friends and having your name at the top of the leader board.

This is a very simple game to follow and play and will give you and your family hours of entertainment. So…what are you waiting for?? Go check out the site and get ready for hours of fun.

Happy New Year!

Well it’s official. 2008 is gone and 2009 came roaring in. We had an awesome, quiet and relaxing night last night. With my husband being on call, there wasn’t much we could do except stay home and spend time with the children. We had a terrific Chinese buffet style meal. The food was delicious and we all stuffed our faces. Then after all the dishes were cleared, we sat down to enjoy a family movie.

Both the kids had it in there heads that they were going to stay up until midnight. Well my son (who’s eight) lasted until 8:00, my daughter (who’s ten) did make it until midnight and I lasted until 11:15. So it was only my daughter and my husband who actually seen the new year arrive. Oh… and the best part…I heard from my oldest son.

So..all in all it was a pretty great night. How was your new year’s eve? Did you do anything exciting?

New Year’s Eve Tradition

My family and have do in fact have a new year’s eve tradition. Every new year’s eve we purchase a pile of frozen Chinese food. We buy enough that we can have a Chinese style buffet with a lot of left overs for the next day. Then, while we are eating this delicious meal we then sit down and watch one of the movies that the kids would have gotten for Christmas. It’s a great way to spend new year’s eve and it’s a wonderful way to connect as a family.

Well this year we have decided to do something a little different, we have decided to check out a few trailers of new movie releases that are up and coming. One of the movie releases that my husband and I are looking forward to is the All Roads Lead Home The Movie. From watching all the commercials on TV for the upcoming movie presentation this looks to be an excellent movie for the entire family.

Although tonight we will only be watching the trailer, I am almost positive that when the movie finally does come out, we as a family will be sitting in our living room eating the popcorn and watching this movie. Movies that portray a meaningful message are definitely movies that our entire family seriously enjoys. Seriously guys if your looking for a great family movie to enjoy with your family, then I highly recommend watching this movie. And…until it becomes available for home viewing, you can always click on the above trailer link to see what this movie is all about.

Personalized gifts

I know, I know Christmas is over and so should the gift buying as well right?? Well, not quite. There is always next year now isn’t there?? Just kidding, I’m not really thinking about purchasing Christmas presents for next year, but I do have a couple of birthdays coming up that I’m going to need presents for.

Well thankfully the Internet is chalked full of great ideas for any type of gift giving. I just recently came across a site where I can not only purchase tons of personalized holiday gifts but I was able to find regular gift giving ideas as well. This site offers products such as personalized thumb drives, personalized pens, business card flash drives as well as wooden USB flash drives. Not only do they carry a very extensive variety of products, but their prices are extremely competitive to other sites selling similar products.

These are great gift giving ideas for anyone in the family and with these two birthdays coming up very quickly, I am bound to find a gift that they will enjoy at a price I will enjoy. So…although Christmas is now officially over, the gift giving season never ends, so why not check out these products and prices for the next time you need to give a gift.
