It was when our six year old Salem mattress gave way when we decided to switch to Sleep Comfort Memory Foam by Uratex. I don’t know if it was because we so got used to the old mattress where the springs are almost sticking out (or atleast it came to a point that we felt them poking on our poor backs) that switching to this memory foam gave us the most comfortable sleep. This particular memory foam is constructed using a visco elastic foam on top of a polyurethane base which enables the foam to mold or cradle the body in such a way that it dramatically eases pressure and feels superbly comfortable.

All those back aches I used to have for the longest time are now a thing of the past. Its ten year warranty and the real comfort it has given us since makes the price immaterial. It is not very pricey as compared to other high end brands but it's not the cheapest either. We got our queen size memory foam bed for close to $300 seven months ago.

The California Clubhouse Sandwich. Priced at PhP 165 (approx. $3.59) at Magnolia House in Q.C. A tripled decker sandwich (wheat bread) layered with mango crab filling, ham, egg omelet and veggies. According to the huge menu, it’s a best seller. But then again, if this is a best seller, then I wouldn’t dare taste non-best sellers from the menu.

Needless to say, it was not the best lunch I ever had. I should have tried one of their ice creams, the place being an ice cream house. Then I should have left the place happier.

Cloth Diaper Review

Posted by Jen | Thursday, December 04, 2008

First off, let me overwhelm you with statistics.

Disposable Diapers:

Pampers comfort: Php 7 x 12 (if you change every two hours) x 365 (days in a year) = Php 30,660/year (approx.$653)
Pampers Baby Dry Php 8.25 =
(same computation)Php 36,135/year
Prokids Php 6 = Php 26,280/year
EQ Dry Php 6 = Php 26,280/year
Huggies Php 9 = Php 39,420/year
Kimbies Dry Php 6 = Php 26,280/year
Drypers Dry Php 7 = Php 30,660/year

Do the math. That is just the economic advantage of using leakproof cloth diapers. There are a whole lot more like zero risk of getting nappy rash that is caused by the chemical in disposables that make them super absorbent. The same chemical that makes it almost impossible for disposables to rot. It actually takes 50 plus years for a single disposable diaper to rot.

Just what future are we to give our children and the generations after them when we don't care enough the environment to shift to using leakproof cloth diaper instead of disposables. There is the unquestionable convenience of the disposables, true. In fact, in the full two years that my little guy wore nappies, I still had him used disposables when we went out. But other than that, he was on leakproof cloth diapers.

If I remember it right the largest size was no more than $6 a piece. We had a total of 16 diapers that we used all throughout the time that he used nappies. That's not a bad investment right? In fact, all those are now lent to a dear friend for her little girl. The picture on the right is my little guy in his TushyWushy Leakproof cloth diaper when he was around six months old. :-)

Chicken Musubi by Ohana

Posted by Jen | Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Ohana is located at the second floor of Megamall Bldg. A. We have tried this place out basically because of its free WiFi for diners and soon found out that their barbeque dishes are not all that bad. They have this signature taste that seems to be evident in each dish. Their restaurant theme is unmistakenly Hawaiian, with the girl in a grass skirt serving the patrons and the background music that repeats itself over and over again. I swear the hubby and I still had their music in our heads hours after we left their place! I am so glad that during our last visit (last Saturday), they incorporated some other music aside from their theme song that goes, "Ohana! Ohana!"
This Chicken Musubi costs around $2.90 and it is Hawaii meets Tokyo kind of meal. It is not bad but I should say they have better meals.

The dream mouthwash. Why, you ask? Let the ingredients speak for itself. Gargol has 100% natural essential oils and Xylitol.

The essential oils being:
Thyme- which is proven to be a natural healer. Effectively treats mouth infections.
Chamomile- a soothing herb that sooths inflammations and throat irritations.
Peppermint- a member of the mint family, which keeps breath smelling fresh.
Myrrh- an all around oral remedy. Strengthens spongy gums.
Tea tree- a potent antiseptic that effectively heals mouth ulcers and oral infections.
Propolis- reduces bacteria and plaque formation. Relieves gum inflammation.
Xylitol - nature's sweetener that's actually good for you. It restores orl pH balance and discourages cavity growth.
It was probably more than a year ago when I first saw the "Gargol" ad in The Philippine Star. The first time I went to Mercury to try it out, it was not yet available. So I got frustrated. I so wanted to try this out so bad because ever since my childbirth instructor has told us the danger of getting mouth cancer out of using mouthwash with alcohol, (She lost her husband to mouth cancer). I have shunned every other mouthwash in the market.

I have actually tried Oracare, which also does not contain alcohol, but I did not find its price very friendly. It is a little too pricey for the content. A 200ml bottle of Gargol only costs $2, not bad, right? From amongst all the flavors, orange and green apple are my favorites.

Ciao Bella, I Love!

It has been a while since I last indulged in a cup. It was the very first gelato I ever tasted and it was so sinfully delicious. Too bad it is only available in two shops - Rustan's and Shopwise. One pint costs a little over five dollars.

Before World Bangers Haute Dog, there was only one hotdog shop that we really love, that is Ogie Doggie's. I have not looked it up, but so far the only World Bangers Haute Dog place we found was at Rockwell’s. Talk about “haute” and their dogs are “haute” as can be. Not your ordinary hotdog place I should say with prices ranging from $3.50 to $4.00. But all very well worth it.

This is what I ordered. Delish as delish could be. I forgot what they call this plate altogether. You might have a hard time choosing from different plates when you get there, but I guess they are all worth a try.

Intex Portable Pool

Posted by Jen | Sunday, November 09, 2008

We bought this portable mini pool for our son last summer and it was an instant hit! It was affordable at a little more than $30. I know I could always have him soak in our tub, but where is the fun in enjoying the outdoors while enjoying the water, right?

We actually had more than three options, but this particular one stood out. It looks more durable and definitely should last us more than just a couple of summers.

Unlike the tub, this portable pool can accommodate at least four grown ups and can usher to a great bonding time with family and friends. :-)

I have been using this on my son for several years now. I have been an avid fan of Ilog Maria products. This is so doing well protecting my son from mosquitoes every single day.
Sting-less is a Citronella Mosquito Repellent with Propolis. It safely repels mosquitoes and other insects with natural plant and fruit oils that have pleasing smell that lasts for hours. All you have to do is apply it on clothing and less sensitive areas of the skin. The Propolis ingredient provides antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral action.
A 50ml bottle costs Php 71.50 and it lasts more than a couple of months or even three. I really am not sure, I am not keeping count. It is very practical and effective. I admit to still try other anti-mosquito brands when I see one from the store that would claim to be all natural, but this is the brand I always go back to. It is very gentle on my son's skin aside from it's guarantee to be all-natural.
