Back from the Pedia

stethoscope.jpgIt was almost 4 in the morning when the little guy and I finally were able to sleep. Two hours before that, I checked him in his bed and felt his skin a little too hot than usual. Suddenly the digital thermometer that I just slid into the drawer minutes before had to be retrieved to help check my son’s temp. To my surprise he was doing 39.3 degrees Celsius and I got into the frazzled mode in an instant. He took on the virus that I just got off and am just starting to recover from. I felt so bad! :-( Continue Reading »

Still Sick

Published by User ImageJennie under Health & Beauty, Uncategorized

still-sick.jpgI have been sick since early Tuesday. My head won’t stop hurting and just when I expect to get better, some terrible cold virus snuck in and made me feel worse. I don’t easily get colds and I guess with the bug that I caught, it made my immune system more vulnerable. This is the worst colds I ever had, I have been miserable since. Continue Reading »

Mission: Update

Published by User ImageJennie under This & That, Uncategorized

Now that I have a brand new Reviews Corner domain to look closely after, my other web pages have got to warm the benches, as expected. It is really not easy maintaining lots of web sites. Since I only get to have twenty four hours a day and seven days a week, plus this bug that got me. The much needed updates is not close to being done. Continue Reading »

Doc’s Advice: Rest and Pop Pills

Published by User ImageJennie under Health & Beauty, Uncategorized

I just got back from the doctor. I caught a bug, some kind of virus. The doc got the confirmation just by looking through my throat. How they do that, I have not the slightest idea! This has been causing the fever that I have for four days now. Now it can be said–my little guy is really healthier than me. I remember him catching a viral thing last month and he only had fever for one full day. Continue Reading »

List of Things to Do Stacking Up

Published by User ImageJennie under This & That, Uncategorized

I so hate being sick! Aside from the fact that I don’t get to do the regular things that I do, I cannot expect the hubby to do things with the same precision. But in hindsight, I have seen him really appreciating what I do now that he knows nothing comes easy. This is probably the longest running influenza I ever had. Continue Reading »

Working from Home and Blog Advertising

This site is almost a year old! In fact, I recently just renewed my claim on this domain. Sweet! I cannot divulge the amount of money I since made from blog advertising (for obvious reasons), but I have tell you it’s decent enough that I could actually consider it as a part time job with a full time pay. I am a proud full time mom! I have to say that it has been the Lord’s answer to our prayers. My desire is to be able to be a full time mom, care of the affairs of our home myself and be able to earn while at it – right from home.

payingpost.jpg

The most recent Blog Advertising network platform that I joined is PayingPost.com. This site has been a member of a handful of other platforms, and this new site actually looks very promising. It was not until I claimed this domain less than a year ago that I actually came to know how it was to get paid for blogging. Continue Reading »

PhotoHunt: Together

Published by User ImageJennie under Family, Friends, Meme

botbydblud.jpg

It has been a while since I last did some photo hunting. When I checked back with Tnchick.com and saw the most recent theme, I knew I cannot pass this one up and there is no better shot for me to post than this. Taken last Saturday after the spa treat our friend Ana gave us. It was a dinner of bonding, courtesy of Frances, who just celebrated her birthday the day before. We all headed to Starbucks after. A celebration of friendship! :D

We hope to be complete the next time we get together. That would take a while, I know. One of our dear friends flew to Dubai and we are all praying that his family will be able to join him very soon.

Wifey’s Down with a Fever

Published by User ImageJeff under Home, Uncategorized

My wife has been very sick today and I have been doing much of the things she’s been doing -but still not all of them. I prepared breakfast, brought home lunch and dinner and let her take her meds. She preferred staying in bed and how nice would it have been for her to embrace some faux fur throws. The lemon grass juice that I let her drink could very well match the soft pillows if it were in a hot water bottle from west-way.com. Continue Reading »

Celebrations Galore!

Published by User ImageJennie under Celebration, Family, Uncategorized

balloons_celebration_large.jpg

Although I’m sure we won’t be able to afford any of those las vegas suites just yet, we are actually looking into spending Christmas in another place. We have two big celebrations coming up this December. Our 7th wedding anniversary and Christmas. Come to think of it, it was also December last year when we launched this site. So that makes it three celebrations for us this December! Yay! :D

While everybody else must’ve cooked up some contest if they were in our place, here I am too lazy conceptualizing one. Thinking about it alone seems overwhelmingly tedious. Plus I haven’t got the luxury of time to do that. So I’m gonna have to scratch that altogether. Unless, sponsors come flocking and suggest ideas that will be hard to resist. ;-)

Gurgle Guide to Toddler Care

The hubby and I are blessed to have a healthy child. We decided to not give him synthetic vitamins and minerals right from when he was an infant. Call it coincidence, but when we stopped the usual baby multivitamins, then the fevers and frequency of colds were almost non-existent. We have since taken care to give him all natural foods as much as possible, like organic brown rice  and a couple of all natural supplements.  We have been reaping the benefits since. :-)

Keeping babies healthy can often be a challenge, especially with all the viruses mutating like crazy these days. I know for a fact that while it is easier to protect him now that he isn’t in big school yet, it won’t be the same when he is exposed to a host of different bugs when he heads for school. Gay Marriage Ban Slows Down Erosion of the Family

Published by User ImageJeff under Family, Marriage

Shadowed by the news of President Obama’s win in the recent U.S. elections was the news on the passage of a constitutional amendment against gay marriage in California. The amendment overrides the state Supreme Court decision made in May by defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

I am happy that California voters made the right decision on Proposition 8. Because when the news that Obama won spread, I was quite fearful for the U.S. knowing that Barack Obama is a gay-rights supporter. But it was the same people who voted for Obama who voted against gay marriage.

I know that with the ban on gay marriage, many who support gay marriage would really express their disapproval against it. One argument being thrown out, which is foundational, is that this issue isn’t about church doctrine but about law. They say that the church must not have anything to do with legal issues - separation of church and state, is what many call it.

But I think we must ask ourselves the question, what will be the basis of the laws that we make? Will it just be what the majority decides? What if the majority decides that killing and stealing be legalized, just as gambling and prostitution which were considered taboos many years ago? Continue Reading »

Foster the Love for Reading

I know I have been slacking on my schedule with my little guy on our book reading. But so far, we are reaping the benefits of starting early. He was around five months when my sweet little sister gave him his very first Bible. Now, at three years old, he knows a handful of characters from the Bible and periodically requests us to read the story of whomever from the list of characters in his mind. He also loves a few from his Time Life and Child Craft collection. He would be the one to remind me for our reading time.

img_8284-copy.jpg

It is just fun to see him the little geek grab a book from his library (he has his own in his room) and just turn the pages as I amuse myself as I tiptoe towards his door, listening how he would narrate stories from memory and sometimes make up stories from the visuals that he sees from the book. I am excited for the day when he will be able to read more than just those simple three and four letter words. :-) Continue Reading »

Outsource My Dropping Task?

Published by User ImageJennie under Computers & Internet

Sweet! I was somewhere inside the house, when my younger sister, Rose, gushed over how my three year old son was dropping EC cards for me. He’d click on the cards and close the tabs. I had to see for myself! You see, I habitually just open several tabs (90 to be exact= that is 5columns x 18rows) via the good ‘ol Firefox add-on linky and just leave them as I do some regular things around the house. I just come back when I’m done with everything else that needs to get done. I remember a few times my son asked me what I was doing and I just told him that I was dropping cards. It stuck to him, plus he took on the details of what I would do as I drop cards. Does this mean I could actually outsource my daily dropping task? LoL! :D

WW: Jed at the Dentist’s

Published by User ImageJennie under Child Care & Discipline

scrapbook-dentist.JPG

It was our little guy’s second time at the dentist’s clinic. The first time was a year ago, when he just turned two years old. Although he graced it with ease , it wasn’t the ideal to give him the full stretch of a prophylaxis procedure. That would have been pushing the baby too far and could have caused trauma of sorts. You can view the videos from last year here and here.

It was just sweet that he readily agreed when I told him that we will be visiting Tita Ganda (which he fondly calls Dr. Len) again today and will have his teeth cleaned. There are a lot of kids that he sees without teeth and full of caries and he says he does not want that. This is what gets him to move and brush his teeth before his afternoon nap and before he sleeps at night. This is one of the benefits of routines. Babies and toddlers need routine. They do not know any better and leaving them to figure things out for themselves spells out d-i-s-a-s-t-e-r. It was what helped him sleep through the night from the second month of his life. He was never under nourished even if he did not feed at two in the morning. A baby need not be such a burden, you just have to handle him right. Okay, that deserves a different post altogether.

Going back to this dentist’s visit, I was just amazed by our little guy all over again. My baby was just wonderful all throughout. I was almost anticipating some kind of tension here and there, but there was none. I did not push him toward the dental chair, I just thought he’d figure out from the first visit he had. During his first visit, the hubby and I had to alternately have him sit on our laps. The chair was a little too cold and big for him then.

During today’s visit, it was just lovely when Dra. Len had him participate in the “cleaning process” by handing him the saliva ejector and have it stay in place. Jed loves that! (helping out and participating) Although toward the end of the possibly twenty minute “teeth cleaning process,” we saw the saliva ejector doing this “sword fight” with the other dental tool that Dra. Len was using to clean his teeth, but even then he was still okay. To have a three year old in a supine position with mouth wide open for twenty minutes without whining and no sign of impatience, that is still something. I am one proud mama! We will go back to see Dra. Len again after six months. :D

John McCain’s Concession Speech

Published by User ImageJeff under This & That

As Senator John McCain has conceded, a new chapter in history was written. McCain’s supporters may initially look at this as something negative, while the brand new President’s supporters rejoice. But as believers we should trust in the One who established this new authority in the U.S.

We can read from Senator John McCain’s concession speech how he encourages his supporters to submit to the newly elected president, recognizing that God is the one who instituted Barack Obama to the presidency.

Complete Text of Arizona Senator John McCain’s concession speech:
Phoenix, Arizona, Nov. 4, 2008

MCCAIN: Thank you. Thank you, my friends. Thank you for coming here on this beautiful Arizona evening.

(APPLAUSE)

My friends, we have — we have come to the end of a long journey. The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly.

A little while ago, I had the honor of calling Senator Barack Obama to congratulate him. (BOOING)

Please. To congratulate him on being elected the next president of the country that we both love.

In a contest as long and difficult as this campaign has been, his success alone commands my respect for his ability and perseverance. But that he managed to do so by inspiring the hopes of so many millions of Americans who had once wrongly believed that they had little at stake or little influence in the election of an American president is something I deeply admire and commend him for achieving. The Wii Fit Delay

Published by User ImageJennie under This & That

To be honest, I was so looking forward to December specifically because my folks were originally set to come home by then –and so will my Wii Fit. What do we know, they rebooked for January and opted to have a white Christmas this year. Two months will be here in no time, I know. ;-)

fitness_health.jpgA cause of concern is my becoming a little too heavy in the middle. My love handles are seriously multiplying! Too bad I cannot check my weight because when I was about to stand on the scale yesterday, I just found out that it was busted. Not that I need to get down on a weight loss program. The culprit probably is the number of hours I spend in front of the computer every day with no regular cardio work out or anything. If only the chores count as workout! It was just timely that I earned this one day pass to Fitness First again and will soon hit the gym with my FF fanatic sister one of these days. Girls day out again for us! :D

Origin of Hallowe’en

happyhalloween.jpg

For most of us Hallowe’en is nothing more than just a day filled with ghost stories and scary creatures. People all over the world carry with them varied versions of the tradition but how did Hallowe’en really come about?

October 31st came to be known as All Hallows’ Eve basically because the day after, which is November 1 is All Saints’ Day. “Hallow” means “saint.” It was in 988 that November 2 was made All Souls’ Day. It was a feast to honor the dead and not only those who were regarded by the church as saints. These events must have been measures to be part of an attempt to Christianize the old Eve of Samhain and to wean people away from the old pagan ideas and customs. The probability that people might remember more to pray for the dead rather than pray to them and focus their attention on the lives of saints of the pasts than spirits, whether good or bad.

During the Reformation, there was a serious attempt to cut out some of the ideas, particularly concerning prayer for the dead. There is clearly nothing in the Bible which encourages us to pray for the dead; they are in the hands of God and their eternal destiny has been determined by their response to God in their life on earth. So praying for them cannot alter their condition. As a result of this, All Souls’ Day was removed from the church’s calendar, and wasn’t restored until 1928.
