Trivia Tuesday: Win 2000 Entrecard Credits

Posted by myideas1 on January 6th, 2009

TriviaPhoto.jpgWelcome back to Trivia Tuesday! :-)

Throughout my travels, I’ve seen some of the most beautiful college campuses in the world, but when it comes to land mass, where is the largest campus in the world?

Name this college and the city in which it’s located. How large is it and who was its founder?

Be the first to answer these questions and win 2000 Entrecard credits. Have fun!

Congrats to Mizmell for being the first to answer the questions correctly! Thanks to everyone who participated. :-)

Berry College is the world’s largest campus when it comes to land mass - nearly 30,000 acres located in Rome, (Mt. Berry) Georgia, and founded by Martha Berry.

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2009

Posted by myideas1 on January 1st, 2009

Dubai-Podcast.jpgI love new beginnings. To me, the beginning of a new year has always represented new opportunities. This year, I look forward to embracing this newness with my arms wide open.

In January of last year, I was in Dubai. It is the newest ‘crown jewel’ of the Middle East and a destination known as the “Impossible City.” Who else would dare to build castles on sand or a ski resort in the desert — and even make their own snow? Not only that, they expect the whole world to come and take a gander at all of Dubai’s glory.

One of the billboards I read when I was there stated: “Think Bigger, because thinking big is too small.”

Metro Atlanta is also an “Impossible City” where ripe ideas are still waiting to be plucked from the tree of opportunity. We live in a city that is the ‘crown jewel’ of the South. We live in a city that is much too big to think small.

Thanks to all of my fellow Entrecard members who brought me knowledge, friendship and laughter. Have a healthy and prosperous year. :-)

Looking For The Perfect Gift?

Posted by myideas1 on December 23rd, 2008

be_mine.jpg In 1984, Sherry Caldwell-Hawkins was inspired to create edible fruit arrangements from a display of honeydew, watermelon and cantaloupe sticks being sold at a carnival in Ramstein, Germany.

Upon moving back to the states, she started an errand service, where as a ‘thank you’ she would leave a mini version of her incredible edible fruit arrangements. Unintentionally creating a buzz, she found she was making more edible creations than she was running errands.

Through various inspirations, her bouquets evolved into the healthy edible fruit and vegetable arrangements you see today. Her one-of-a-kind incredible edible fruit arrangements appeal to your 3 senses:

  • They look breathtakingly beautiful
  • Smell tantalizingly sweet
  • And taste absolutely delicious

Village3.jpgHello everyone…it’s Trivia Tuesday time!

I love chocolate, especially when it’s rich and creamy. I don’t eat it as much as I did when I was younger, but every once in a while, I’ll have a craving which needs a remedy from this Bavarian Village.

When you arrive, it won’t be long before you smell the warm, rich aroma, wafting from my favorite shop. The only problem you’ll encounter is trying to figure out which tasty treat you’d like to take home.

It’s only about an hour and a half from where I live so I just grab my husband, jump in my car, and go!

Be the first to name this Bavarian Village or city nestled in the mountains and win 2000 credits! Have fun. :-)

Answer: Helen, Georgia: My favorite shop is Hansel & Gretel Candy Kitchen!

Winner! Dori: From A Yellow House In England..Congratulations :-)

Dr. Gloria Campbell D’Hue: Destined For Greatness

Posted by myideas1 on December 17th, 2008

DrGloriaCampbell-Dhue3photo.jpgDr. Gloria Campbell D’Hue, affectionately known as Atlanta’s Dermatologist to the Stars, was nurtured in a warm, loving and spiritual environment where education and entrepreneurship were constantly encouraged. From the time she was three years old, she wanted to become a doctor.

After graduating from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, she began medical school in San Francisco. Unfortunately, her education was cut short because her mother became ill with breast cancer. After one year of medical school, she went back home, making her mother her primary concern.

After her mom passed away, she was left in charge of raising her sisters. Taking odd jobs, and at one time making only .75 cents an hour, she managed the best way she could to make ends meet.

Though it was difficult, Dr. D’Hue persevered, never giving up on her goal of becoming a physician. After being out of school for two years, she pressed on, eventually becoming the second African American woman to be accepted into Emory University School of Medicine. In addition, she was the first female African American dermatologist in the state of Georgia.

Dr. D’Hue has been ‘taking care of the skin you’re in’ for 25 years.

Listen and be inspired by her commitment to excellence and perseverance, not to mention her warm personality, which have all earned Dr. Gloria Campbell D’Hue a place in our hearts and a place in Atlanta’s History Center!

PodcastDrWilson.jpgThis problem has been around for thousands of years. As a matter of fact, the collection of ancient Rabbinic writings consisting of the Mishnah and the Gemara, constituting the basis of religious authority in Orthodox Judaism (Talmud) said you could actually get a divorce because of it.

Name the problem and the person they could have visited to help save their marriage.

Good Luck! :-)

Trivia Tuesday: Win 1000 Entrecard Credits

Posted by myideas1 on December 9th, 2008

skylontower.jpgWell, it’s Trivia Tuesday time!

Thanks again to everyone who participated in last week’s contest.

Name this wonderful building which houses a world-famous revolving dining room, not to mention the great food they serve in the restaurant. I spent one of my birthdays in this city and met some of the nicest people in the world.

I can’t remember which one I enjoyed the most, the view or the food. I’d move here in a flash if it didn’t get so cold.

Final Hint: Overlooks a popular waterfall.

The first person to name the building and the waterfall wins 1000 Entrecard Credits! Enjoy. :-)

Answer: Niagara Falls - Skylon Tower : Today’s Winner Is…ManInTheMoon!

Construction began in May of 1964 and the Tower’s doors opened to the general public on October 6, 1965. At the time of construction, the Skylon Tower was a privately owned Canadian Company, the Niagara International Center. The center housed international exhibitions with all restaurants in it operated by Canadian Pacific Hotels. In 1975, CP Hotels purchased the complex and operated it until 1986 when it was sold to two local hotel owners. In 1988 the final ownership change took place when George Yerich, one of the hotel owners purchased the entire complex.

Shirley Osborne Vanderbilt, CPA - Up Close

Posted by myideas1 on December 7th, 2008

ShirleyOsbornePodcast.jpgWHAT I LOVE THE MOST ABOUT MY JOB - What I love most about my job is helping people. I find out where my clients are financially, where they need to go, and show them how to accomplish that through tax planning, whether it be real estate, retirement planning, or starting a business.

HOMETOWN - My hometown is not a town; I am from the country. When people ask me where I’m from, I tell them, well…we get our mail in Quitman, Louisiana. I went to school in Jonesboro, Louisiana, but I’m really from St. Rest and very proud of my community. Education is stressed, as it never crossed my mind that I would NOT go to college. We raised and grew our food. You had peas and bread one day and bread and peas the next day. If you killed a cow, you had steak and gravy; a hog, pork chops. You went to church every Sunday, for that was not an option.

WHAT I LIKE THE MOST ABOUT ATLANTA - I love the weather after living in Chicago and you have the option of doing almost anything you want from sports, to the arts, dancing and the best churches. The diversity of people is great. If you can’t make it in Atlanta, you may not be trying hard enough because you can start a business and make as much money as you are willing to work or manage.

BEST ADVICE I’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN - Go to school, get a good job and pay your bills on time and yes, PUT GOD FIRST.

THE MOUNTAINS, THE BEACH OR THE LAKE? - The beach is very relaxing, and usually somewhere around there is also good seafood.

FAVORITE OLD SCHOOL SONG - I’m a Motown lover, give me all the oldies, that to me is real music.

FAVORITE GEORGIA GETAWAY - I guess I would have to say Chateau Elan. However, I love to visit Hilton Head and San Destin is a newer version of that.

FAVORITE DESSERT - Praline Apple Pie…which I make myself. I love to cook desserts and the other one I cook all the time is Cream Cheese Pound Cake.

I AM MOST PROUD OF - My family, my grandparents, my parents, my aunt and uncles. Because of my family, I was directed in the right direction all the time.

I WISH I HAD KNOWN 20 YEARS AGO - I wish someone had sat me down and demonstrated how real estate and stocks helped you get financially free early.

WHAT MAKES ME LAUGH - My 6 year old grandson, who is so expressive in words and action.

Trivia Tuesday: Win 1000 Entrecard Credits

Posted by myideas1 on December 2nd, 2008

PhotoTrivia1.jpgOh, the healing power of nature, particularly, the mountains.

This is a very familiar view from one of our past U.S. President’s favorite getaways. Being a lover of nature, it has become one of my favorite spots as well.

Whenever the world gets to be too much, I always find my way here and it works a miracle for me each time.

Be the first to name the President and the retreat and win 1000 Entrecard Credits. Hint: A place in Georgia.

Answer!

The photo and the clues all pointed to Dowdell’s Knob, one of my favorite places in Georgia because it’s only about an hour from my house. A little search on Google would have instantly blown my cover. Since Sheila Sultani was the first to get half of the answer, I’ll award her 500 Entrecard credits! Congratulations Sheila! Thanks for participating everybody. Tune in to next week’s Trivia Tuesday and try to win 1,000 Entrecard Credits! :-)

Think Safety

Posted by myideas1 on November 25th, 2008

ThinkSafety3.jpgOnce again, the holiday season is upon us. Though this can be a very exciting time, it is also a very vulnerable time for everyone. As you go shopping and traveling to spend time with family and friends, remember to practice safety.

Neglecting to wear seat belts, drinking and driving, driving over the speed limit, and interpersonal violence because of too much alcohol are all simple things which occur that can ultimately change lives forever.

I have experienced a major trauma in my own family, and I know firsthand about the emotional and financial burden it can place on everyone. I guess that’s why I’m committed to reminding people to do all they can to stay safe.

I always like to stress safety by sharing an interview granted to us by Dr. Mark Walker, Director of Surgical Health Collective, in metro Atlanta. Unfortunately, Dr. Walker has seen numerous major injuries during his career, which simply could have been avoided. So this holiday season, please practice safety for those you love, your fellow human beings, and above all else, practice it for yourself.
